I wanted a blaze orange camo coat for public land hunting here in Michigan this year and im glad i decided to chose this coat. This coat held up great on cold windy days and did an excellent job the few days it rained, the only knocks i have on this coat is the use of Velcro, i would of prefered buttons on the pockets and hood due to the increase noise involved. All in all a great coat that gets the job done.
Overall rate it a 3. Insulation is a 5 because in two days of snowy windy weather it kept me comfortable with a couple light layers underneath. The detachable hood is junk and only rates a 1. It's thin and has no body to it unlike real parkas I used in the Air Force or other hunting parkas I've used. It has no insulation and snagged on any Velcro near it. Waterproofing started as a 5 but turned to a 1 or zero when the elastic wrist cuffs leaked on day two with snow flurries and sleet. Water soaked thru the cuffs into the fleece layer I wore underneath and into the cuff of my gloves soaking my wrists and hands in a couple hours, ruining a hunt. Pockets rated a 4 since there are a decent number and location with exception of the hand warmer pockets under the large cargo pockets at the bottom of the jacket. I prefer pockets like a kangaroo pocket where your arms aren't fully extended. Fit and finish are good, and I'd rate that a 5. I'm sure I can apply waterproofing to the sleeve cuffs to eliminate that problem, but I wish I'd known the issue before spending several weeks preparing for opening day. I'll probably sew my own hood from better material to make it a true parka.
well this year was the year for a new coat. my old one was quite old and not really performing as when it was new!
first thing, it was roomy and a bit longer than my old coat, which made it nice, no back drafts while in a tree stand. the pockets were large and easily accessed. the inside had a nice feel to it and not noisy most of the time i wore just a tee shirt on a tree stand even at that i was toasty warm
coat is very warm and light weight, fit was very good. I am ready for deer season! P.S. I love the amount of pockets on this coat.
My old jacket finally gave out after close to 30 years of winter deer hunting and I searched unsuccessfully for a similar style and had no luck until I found the Gamehide Whisper Blaze Orange Deer Hunting Parka. The fluorescent orange meets the requirements where I hunt and the camo print was exactly what I was looking for. And the built in fanny pack feature was just what I wanted as I don't care to wear a backpack to carry essentials, but I need something because once I get in the woods I don't come out until dark. Great jacket. Well made. Fits just as I like. Can't wait for deer season!!!
